Star Tribune Conveniently Ignores Everyone Except Trump In Response to Florida Election

The Star Tribune Editorial Board is attacking President Donald Trump for undermining “yet another democratic institution” in response to the election scandal in Florida, but makes no mention of the serious concerns raised by politicians such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jeb Bush.

“President Donald Trump’s fact-free attacks on the vote counts in Florida and Arizona are damaging and must stop,” the Editorial Board writes, saying the president’s “accusations display a breathtaking ignorance of the voting process.”

“Close elections happen. That does not mean one side is ‘stealing’ the election,” the Monday article continues. “There has been little evidence of deliberate voter fraud in the United States, despite regular GOP accusations.”

Trump aside, the editorial makes no mention of the many serious allegations raised by Florida’s politicians, nor does it address Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes, who has been found responsible for counting unlawful votes, destroying ballots, and missing deadlines.

Bush, who appointed Snipes to her role, tweeted Monday that “there is no question that Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes failed to comply with Florida law on multiple counts, undermining Floridians’ confidence in our electoral process.”

“Supervisor Snipes should be removed from her office following the recounts,” Bush added.

Rubio, meanwhile, criticized the likes of The Star Tribune, saying that “many of the same people in media and commentary who are always warning about ‘threats to our democracy’ are excusing or deflecting attention from the blatant lawlessness in Broward and Palm Beach.”

“They make a straw man argument that we must ‘count every vote.’ They say we are misrepresenting Florida law, even though two separate judges today found violations,” he added.

In a series of tweets spanning a week, Rubio has detailed the many concerns surrounding Snipes and her counterparts in Palm Beach, noting that the media was threatened with arrest while attempting to report on the latter.

Additionally, Rubio points out that Snipes is “required by state law to submit results every 45 minutes,” but one update from her precinct took “over 20 hours.” Snipes has also “consistently refused” to disclose how many ballots “they have left to canvass and count.”

Snipes later spoke with a group of reporters after all 67 counties expect for hers had reported by deadline, but stormed off when reporters asked for information on “how many votes are outstanding.”

Additional stories coming out of Broward County show that Snipes’ office had mixed 20 illegal provisional ballots with 185 legal ones, causing the illegal ballots to be unidentifiable.

“Want more lawlessness? Broward County elections opened 208 provisional ballots without canvassing boards approval as required by law,” Rubio tweeted. “After admitting [the] error [they] submitted them to [the] board which found at least 12 are invalid. Guess what? They are going to count all 208 of them anyway.”

In dozens of tweets posted between now and election day, Rubio reveals that a court ordered Snipes to turn over vote counts while finding her in violation of state public record laws, and that her county remained the “only county which still has not completed its early vote count” in violation of “early vote reporting laws.”

“Left-wing commentators have no shame just making things up,” Rubio later tweeted in response to criticisms. “No one is stopping Florida recount. Only thing we ask is they follow the law.”
